Mahira Faran

Mahira Faran is a fourth year Economics major and Global Development Studies concentrator from Lahore, Pakistan. As a Vivero fellow, she will be working with Professor Caleb Elfenbein on the Mapping Islamophobia Project, which aims to document hostility against Muslims in America and the impact it has on their ability to participate in public life.

She spent the past two summers engaging with development organizations in Ghana and Chicago working with issues ranging from child trafficking and slavery to affordable housing.

Kedamawit Habte

Kedamawit Habte is a third year student at Grinnell College majoring in computer science.  She is originally from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia but has lived in the U.S. for more than half her life. She is excited to enter this world of digital humanities because it combines community along with  technology (both of which she loves). As a Vivero fellow, she is working with Professor Tess Kulstad Gonzalez to build a disaster resource website to assist instructors for  (K-12, college) create engaging, thoughtful, and critical learning opportunities. Her ultimate life goal is to look back at her life as one of purpose and service

TJ Calhoun

TJ is a fourth-year student currently working on a digital humanities endeavor to visualize racial trauma across K-12 curriculums and college settings. They are currently pursuing a degree in Narrative and Media Studies and a concentration in Technology.

Saiham Sharif

I’ll be working on the Shakespeare and Social Justice project. It will covers the ways in which Shakespeare has been used to bring communities together and provide a map to show the locations of these communities.

Charun Upara

Hi! I’m Charun, a computer science and history double major from Chiang Rai, Thailand. I will be working with Professor Sarah Purcell on a companion website for her forthcoming book, Spectacle of Grief: Public Funerals and U.S. Civil War History and Memory.

Other than my interests in technology and the humanities, I also enjoy playing music and reading. I play in a couple of bands and also write solo instrumental guitar pieces, so catch me in concerts around campus throughout the year!
